After years and miles, wear occurs that allows the flats to rotate back and forth a little, causing a lot of noise. There are products on the market that shim up the bolt and stop the movement. Since this bike in new to you, and its history is unknown, the FIRST thing I would do is to pop the nose cone off (cam cover) and inspect the spring-loaded tensioners. WebJun 12, 2012 · I have found synthetic oil to be a bit more noisy in the valvetrain area but not bad enough to switch back to dino. I would not use a motor oil syn or dino in the primary or tranny. I use Redline designed for primary, tranny and crankcase specific. Three different oils in three different holes. I have also experienced a number of M8 motors. This motor did not exhibit the noises that I am complaining about when I bought it last year. HD's whole marketing ploy was how much quieter the M8 was and it was true when I bought the bike.
